Martin Splitt, John Mueller, and Danny Sullivan discussed Google ranking improvements on Google's Search Off the Record podcast. Although the majority of what was discussed is not entirely new, it is a nice reminder that it might sometimes be more crucial to focus on the overall picture than on particulars when it comes to taking advantage of Google algorithmic improvements.
The only information that is brand-new is that Danny Sullivan wants and appears to be encouraging the various Google teams to publish algorithm systems more frequently, but in an all-encompassing manner.
Do you see this growing more specific over time, John Mueller questioned Danny Sullivan? Or do you believe the amount of granularity at which we document there is appropriate?
"I hope that it expands far more, Danny Sullivan retorted. Just now, the news staff discussed issue authority. Now that we have a new system, we will formally add it to that page and maybe build a separate page to explain it in more detail. "And one of the things I hope is that when more teams create ranking systems and improve them, they realize that doing so would be beneficial to sharing with the rest of the globe. Because understanding some of these things is helpful for those who develop material, he continued, "but it's also helpful for those who use Google to know that we do certain things."
The incredibly talented Michael Adediran if you are too busy to listen to it yourself, provides a really good description of what was discussed...
